Are you considering a garden room?
Even before contacting the specialists about your dream luxury garden room, there are a number of questions you can ask yourself before picking up the phone and taking the plunge.
First and foremost, it’s important that you establish what you plan to use your new space for. There are many uses which you can browse here on our website and the possibilities are very exciting.

Will the room be there to act as an extension to your workplace, or to relax and unwind? Many garden room extensions are used with the intention of extending actual living space, but there has also been an increase in the demand for the independent living annex. Thinking about what the room will be used for will always lead to other choices and decisions. For example, do you need TV, telephone and broadband connections, what interior fittings will be needed and so on.
It is also important to establish the space you have available. For many people living in the UK, this is a fundamental consideration. Your garden space will initially help determine the size of the garden room that will work for you. Also, a very important factor from an early stage should be, do you require planning permission?
In terms of styling, do you want to contrast with or match the style of the surrounding area? Is it important to you that your garden room fits in with its surroundings or makes a bold statement?

Finally, your garden room should complement your outdoor living area. Are there features already present that you would like your garden extension to accompany?
Also, if you’re a sun lover, which way does the sun rise and set? Will your new garden room impede on the sun’s rays?
So maybe the question should actually be why not?… Fill out our project planner today… it encourages you to look more deeply into the space that you are seeking and it certainly helps us to understand your requirements.
We would like to put a stylish looking gym in our garden . Would we need planning consent
Hi Jean,
Thank you for your question – it is a good one to ask and one we get asked a lot 🙂
Most garden rooms can be built under Permitted Development rights, without the need for planning, but this does depend on a variety of factors. We have a very useful guide that I can email over to you. It should answer most of your questions.
Many thanks.
Hi Ideally I want a modern looking garden room with a separate storage area, with the whole structure being about 5 meters long and the storage area taking up 1.5 meters . This would leave 3.5 meters of insulated living space for a gym / bar ( balanced life 😂) Is this something you could help with? It needs to be comfortable but not break the budget.
