With the unusual disruptions and restrictions of the past 15 months, the need for additional space at home has never been more apparent. What better way to gain that much sought-after room to breathe, than by adding a garden room!…the perfect way to extend your property and add valuable rooms without the typically prolonged ‘building site upheaval’ that can usually occur during a traditional extension.
Often during an initial enquiry, our support team will ask you to consider what the main purpose of your new room will be, how will it be used. But what happens when you have more than one usage for that space?
Let’s say you would love to have your own separate, dedicated work-from-home space, but you would also really love to have a private, independent room for the occasional overnight guest, for example, our multipurpose garden rooms can offer you a fantastic solution.
We always pride ourselves in taking the bespoke approach, creating every building to suit each individual client’s needs. We will never ask you to try to fit your requirements into a predesigned model or floorplan, your building will be designed around you.
Our team of experts will take on board all your ideas and use their skills to create your perfect multipurpose space. They will ask you to think about all of its potential uses – whether you will benefit from multiple rooms or whether internal ‘zones’ created with clever furnishings are more suitable. Other important factors your designer will discuss with you will include doors and windows, lighting, heating, and cooling.
So, if you are considering adding a life-changing space to your home, be inspired by taking a look at a few examples of multipurpose garden rooms we have built:
Garden offices/overnight guest suites
A sofa bed and a creative arrangement of your internal furnishings is an easy and popular way to instantly create a dual-purpose space – your home office by day can easily convert to a private guest room at night.
Large Open Plan Flexible Spaces
Many of our clients opt for a large space which allows for flexibility of usage depending upon the requirement.
The images below are a perfect example of such an open-plan space. This building was completed four years ago and we received these photos this past week from our client.
Initially, their garden room was intended to house a full-size snooker table, but even in the early stages during the build, this idea was being challenged by the possibility of the space changing to become the home gym. On receiving the recent email and photos, however, we have discovered that the room has evolved yet again! Opting for a smaller pool table our clients have allowed them to maximize the space and add a running machine, a pilates area, a sofa/TV chill-out section and they have imminent plans to add a bar. Flexibility at its best!
“Absolutely delighted with the service we received throughout the process. Swift did everything which Martin promised us when we first met. Faultless! The site was kept as tidy as possible during the building of our room and the workmen were polite and respectful at all times. It’s safe to say that our expectations have been fulfilled! The room looks fantastic and the level of workmanship outstanding…delighted!.”
Dividing Your Space into Different Rooms
The use of partitioning walls can split up your floor space into different rooms. Depending upon the usage and privacy required for each room, we will encourage you to consider elements such as internal doors into each room, external doors – whether private access to the outside is important, lighting zones, and heating/cooling choices.
Below is a great example of a garden room that has been divided into two rooms using a partitioning wall. Each room has its own set of aluminum bi-fold doors for individual access.
The smaller room has been initially designed as a home office and the larger side, a home gym. The office is equipped with under-floor heating and the gym has air conditioning for both cool and warm air.
